"Lines" is a virtual kinetic sculpture application for which I wrote the code, which runs in real-time on Windows systems using the Microsoft XNA framework.
It consists of a swarm or flock of thousands of coloured lines flying about in 3D space, following simple rules. Each line's colour, length, speed and maneouvrability is determined at the start using an iterative algorithm which is used in the calculation of the Mandelbrot set.
This swarm or flock exhibits emergent behaviour which causes the lines to arrange themselves in rainbow patterns as they fly about.
"Lines" is intended to be run as an artwork in itself, a moving picture on a screen or projected onto a surface. You can interact with the display by changing the viewpoint of the virtual camera using the function keys.
Simply unzip the downloaded file and follow the instructions given by the ReadMe.htm file in order to install Lines. Your system may also need to download and install the Microsoft XNA framework, but this should happen automatically.
I got bored shortly after beginning to see the film, but my interest reversed completely when I reached the artist's comments! I think the approach here might be not the best one for introducing your work. In CG festivals, technical papers on video are usually shown with explanations on screen, in sync with a nice sound track to enhance the experience of enjoy visuals, including not only results but also the idea or steps behind the work. Also, you might want to submit this to a festival (onedotzero, for example). I hope this comment helps.
Thanks for the comment. At the moment with the software I have it's impossible to edit the raw capture or add music, comments, etc without blowing out the file size or affecting video quality. I'll keep it in mind though.
